Sommelier's Notes

A single vineyard wine sourced from the cooler, high altitude Eden Valley, this wine displays great verve and tension alongside its ample flavour profile. Barrel fermented with 40% new French oak there are subtle spice and umami flavours adding complexity to the green orchard and citrus fruits. Balanced and long with a bright crisp acidity and complex flavours this is a wine to be considered and enjoyed.

The Chardonnay for this wine was sourced from a cool, high spot of the Batten Vineyard in Eden Valley. Harvested in the cool of the night and crushed and pressed in the early morning the free run juice was then run with minimal settling into barrels for a 100% barrel ferment. On completion the wine was left on lees and lees stirred for 6 months with malolactic femrnetation blocked.

The Barossa had a very dry winter and spring in 2018 and only had limited and small rainfall events during the summer to freshen up the vines. Frost events and hail events in the Spring disrupted bud burst and flowering in some vineyards. These challenging conditions lead to one of the shortest and smallest harvests in recent history but the quality of the fruit that was harvested was universally high even across the white varieties.
