Founded in 1825, Joseph Perrier has been owned and run by the same family since 1888.
Champagne Joseph Perrier is proud of its history and unique situation as the sole Champagne House in the ancient city of Chalons-en-Champagne.
Joseph Perrier owns some beautiful vineyards around 21 hectares in the heart of Champagne, on the right bank of the Marne Valley, around Hautvillers and Cumières, two villages classified 93% in the echelle des crus, where Pinot Noir is mainly planted but also with two hectares of Chardonnay.
Always family owned, 5 generations later it is managed today by Jean-Claude Fourmon. As the head of the operation is Jean Claude Fourmon, whose passion for his wines ensures he uses only the highest quality fruit to protect the integrity of his flavours. The only remaining House making champagne in Chalons-en-Champagne, its cellars are carved straight into the chalk hillside. These Gallo-Roman galleries incorporate skylights and a reflector to bring to some a little daylight.
Each separate champagne cuvee created by Joseph PERRIER has a clear and distinct character while retaining a recognizable House style.
In addition to the Cuvées Royales, a distinction used to celebrate the era supplying Queen Victoria and King Edward VII, the House has created many rare and precious vintages and in the prestige cuvee Joséphine, the ultimate expression of the cellar master’s art.
The Wine
The iconic cuvée of the House that reflects the love of a father, Joseph Perrier, who offered the most beautiful of blends in an exceptional bottle to his daughter, Josephine, for her wedding.
For that occasion he designed the most beautiful hand painted bottle which was decorated with fine gold.
Today’s cuvée, named for Joséphine and celebrating our history, has only been made in the years 1982, 1985, 1989, 1990, 1995, 1998, 2002, 2004 and 2008.
The fresh style of Cuvee Josephine works perfectly with a dish such as a carpaccio of Saint-Jacques. It will complement the tender flesh of a sea-bass and intensify its flavours. Its vinosity can balance the richness of smoked game. The ripe fruit can also partner a dessert of candied apricots and nuts, picking up on the rich pastry notes.
