Pessac-Léognan, located near the city of Bordeaux (left bank of Garonne River), is a part of the Graves wine region. Famous for its white wines (sauvignon blanc, sémillon), the appellation also produces reds with cabernet sauvignon and merlot.

Since the 18th century, Château Ferran (22.5 hectares) had been owned by Robert de Ferran, solicitor at the Bordeaux Parliament, and Montesquieu, the famous French philosopher. Now owned by the Bordelais family since 1880, the estate won numerous medals and good scores.
