Are you looking to discover award winning wine made by a master winemaker ?

Discover Chateau Canon-Chaigneau

Great wine from 21 hectares in Lalande-de-Pomerol, 1km north of Petrus , a gem made by the former cellar master of Cheval Blanc, Thierry Garnaud.

The winemaker Thierry Garnaud, was winemaker of neighbouring Château Cheval Blanc for 38 years. He knows this terroir perfectly and knows not only how to sublimate its exceptional qualities, but also how to express its unique identity.

Thierry was maître de chai at Cheval Blanc from 1988 – 2018, responsible for such 100 point legends as the 1990, 1998, 2000, 2003, 2005, 2006, 2008, 2010, 2015, 2016. His savoir-faire and talent is undisputed, the accolades for these wines are too numerous to list.

The wines from Lalande de Pomerol cover two distinct terroirs: Lalande de Pomerol and Néac.

Château Canon Chaigneau is located in Néac, the much more reputable higher plateau of the appellation.

The Romans were the first to recognise the plateau's great potential for making wines, almost 2000 years ago.

"The plateau of Néac is essentially a continuation of that of Pomerol itself, and the majority of the best crus of Lalande are found in this corner of the appellation" , Decanter Magazine

At Chateau Canon-Chaigneau, it posses the terroir of clay, limestone & iron deposits, very similar to that of the best part of the Pomerol appellation, and nearby Château Petrus, (just 1,2 km away to the south west), adding genuine complexity and making for excellent, refined & age worthy wines.

Lalande de Pomerol is recognised by serious wine lovers for offering top quality and good value.

One of the best value for money for one of the finest wines from a renowned appellation .

True to his values and past, Thierry makes suave, fine, rich wines that are balanced, with beautiful aromatic complexity, typically with notes of truffle, spices, cocoa and black fruits.

Chateau Canon Chaigneau AOC Lalande-de-Pomerol 2008 $70.20 (UP $78)

The enticing bouquet presents a mélange of red and black fruit, iodine, meat juices and rosemary; it is very Pomerol-like, with black truffle emerging with time. The palate is medium-bodied, yet has more weight and depth than 2012. There is a slight coarseness to the tannins at first, but the wine soon mellows and develops what, for 2008, is quite a plush and cohesive finish.

Grapes: Merlot 92% Cabernet Franc 5% Pressac 3%

Culinary Recommendation: To serve 16 C - 18 C. Good match with Grilled steak, meat in sauce, game and grilled salmon

Awards:
91 Vinous
Bronze Medal Concours de Bordeaux
Bronze Medal Challenge International Blaye/Bourg

Chateau Canon Chaigneau AOC Lalande-de-Pomerol 2015 $49.90 (UP $60)

Some bacon-fat aromas across ripe blueberries, blackcurrants and red plums. Some light, herbal and leafy notes too. The palate has a supple, fresh feel to it, and it holds dark, cherry-berry fruit flavours to good effect.

Chateau Canon Chaigneau AOC Lalande-de-Pomerol 2018 $49.90 (UP $58)

A very balanced, creamy-textured red with blueberry, chocolate and walnut flavours. Plump, rich and well- structured on the palate, this retains a pleasant fresh acidity and is impressively restrained in terms of the alcohol level. Plums and damson fruit, with the signature iron minerality and chewy yet svelte tannins of the argilo-calcaire terroir. Very persistent and, indeed, very promising at this formative stage.
