The 2016 Awatere River Pinot Noir is made from grapes from two different sites that have complementary characteristics in terms of flavour and tannins. The winemaking process has been gentle with a largely hands-off approach to showcase the excellent cherry and berry fruits with subtle herb aromas to allow the elegance and finesse on the palate all good Pinot Noirs should have.
Texturally silky and elegant on the palate with fine acidity.
This wine shows the intensity of flavours, typical of the variety, with balance, concentration and purity along with the vibrant fruit characters that Marlborough wines are known for.
Winery: Awatere River
Awatere River has been created by Louis Vavasour, part of a well known winemaking family, who settled in the Awatere Valley in 1890 and built the first winery here in the early 1980s.
A Roseworthy College graduate, Louis honed his craft working as an assistant winemaker in France, California and Australia, before returning to the place where he was born to start his own winemaking business.
Awatere River is the culmination of 10 years immersion in winemaking and draws on over a century of Vavasour family tradition.
