Sommelier's Notes

The estate has been in the same family since time immemorial and has always been handed down by women.

The current owner, Jean-Hubert Delon, inherited the estate from his paternal grandmother, Georgette Liquard.

Although close to the river, Potensac is situated on a high point of land in North Medoc.

Because of this position, the site has been populated since ancient times.

The name "Medoc" in fact comes from "medio aquae" which means "in the middle of the water"

Planted on the best quality soils in the Ordonnac district, the vineyards now extend over 60 hectares on a terroir where the typical characteristics of each grape variety express themselves very distinctly and give the wine superb ageing potential.

The vineyard of Château Potensac extends mainly over limestone subsoil covered with clay-gravel hillocks with a high proportion of gravel.

These limestones are very similar to those found in the Saint-Estèphe appellation.

This singular terroir has plots of Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc planted over 80 years ago, producing perfectly ripe and healthy grapes.

The first edition of Féret already mentioned the hamlet of Potensac for the typicity and longevity of its wines.

Specifications
A deep garnet core is accentuated by ruby highlights, hinting at the wine's maturity.
Pepper, savoury and bay leaf notes lead the way, with a core of medium-weight cassis and cherry flavours.
On the palate, the wine is pure and powerful, the tannins dense and spicy, and the finish of great depth with glorious aromas.
16 C - 18 C
Roasted red meats: Pair the wine with a flavoursome roast lamb or a juicy ribeye steak. The tannins in the wine will stand up to the richness of the meat, while the fruity notes will complement the savoury flavours. Hearty stews and casseroles: The rich body of the Château Potensac 2015 cuts through the richness of slow-cooked dishes. Consider pairing it with a hearty beef bourguignon or a comforting lentil stew. Hard cheeses: The wine's tannins can handle the sharpness of aged cheeses like cheddar or Gruyère. The combination creates a delightful textural contrast and brings out the best in both the cheese and the wine.
