Sommelier's Notes

The Chateau Francs Magnus 2015 is very intense, with an inky colour. Concentrated, this wine offers richness and aromatic power of pleasant aromas from the very beginning essentially dominated by crushed blackcurrants and black berries. After breathing a bit, the bouquet evolves offering a perfume of balsamic and Lebanese cedar. The palate is soft with a breadth of superb tannins. It is a blend of 95% Merlot and 5% Cabernet Franc.

The nose is aromatic and intense and relatively concentrated. It reveals notes of fresh plum and blackberry associated with a hint of cassis jam, cherry tail and licorice. The palate is fruity, relatively gourmand, relatively powerful and offers a good small acid frame as well as a silky and slightly unctuous matter. On the palate this wine expresses notes of plum jam, blackberry cream and slight notes of blueberry associated with a hint of liquorice. Tannins are fine and well built. Good length and persistence with slight notes of coffee and toasted oak. The finish is relatively suave.

James Suckling

A wine with ultra-fine tannins and pretty fruit. Medium to full body. Persistent finish. (4/2016)

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

The medium garnet-purple coloured 2015 Francs Magnus is scented of bright red fruits with florals and dried leaves hints. Medium-bodied, it's chewy and a little lean but with nice freshness and expression. (2/2018)

Vinous

The 2015 Francs Magnus offers lovely depth and creaminess in a forward, fruit-driven style that reflects the ripeness of the year. A host of dark fruit/spice/torrefaction notes wrap around the juicy, deep finish. This is a solid showing. Hubert de Boüard consults. (4/2016)
