Mild and humid winter, up to February, cooler temperatures in March. Spring was rainy and cold: during the four first 2016 months, it rained 560 mm for a total of the year of 865 mm.
Surprisingly, in June, flowering happened quickly very well in perfect conditions. Very dry summer, with very important water stress. Fortunately, the September 13th rainfall enabled the end of the ripening process to continue and reach normally its peak. Vinification conditions were ideal: we carried cool alcoholic fermentation to preserve the fruit and aromas, then followed by 3 to 4 weeks of vatting at higher temperatures.
Malolactic fermentations were quick and permitted to have all wines racked and clean in barrel prior to Christmas.
No doubt a spectacular vintage for both Cabernet Sauvignon (left bank) and Cabernet Franc (right bank), and surprisingly very good Merlots in Pomerol. Ripe tannins, fruit, aromas and excellent length are the characteristics of our vintage wines.
Deep garnet-purple coloured, the 2017 Lynch Bages sashays out of the glass with flamboyant scents of baked blackcurrants, blackberry preserves and mulberries plus touches of lavender, dark chocolate, star anise and unsmoked cigars. Medium to full-bodied, the palate has bags of class and finesse with firm, finely grained tannins and seamless freshness, finishing long and fragrant.
