Sourced predominantly from a single beautiful vineyard in the Eden Valley this wine demonstrates the heady combination of purity, power and elegance of which Shiraz is capable. Blended with fruit from the the Schrapel Vineyards, Homestead block planted along the contours of the Barossa Ranges.
It is a fitting tribute to fourth generation Lawrence and Edna Schrapel who, for over 50 years, were resolute and caring custodians of the Bethany vineyard. Sourced predominantly from a single beautiful vineyard in the Eden Valley this wine demonstrates the heady combination of purity, power and elegance of which Shiraz is capable. A nose of crisp black fruits is lifted and supported by subtle notes of bay leaf. This complex nose leads to a medium bodied palate that is intense, driven and bursting with dark cherries, mulberries and tobacco leaf. The fine-grained tannins provide a strict framework and lead to a long and balanced finish of lingering black fruits.
Picked in the early morning, the fruit for this wine was crushed to fermenter with a proportion of whole berries to maximise fruit expression. After a gentle fermentation on skins for 8-10 days with twice daily pump overs the wine was pressed to combination of new and seasoned French oak before resting for its 18-month maturation.
