Bethany Barossa Valley Shiraz 2018

WINE TYPE: Red

BOTTLE SIZE: 750 ml

Sommelier's Notes

The 2017 Bethany Shiraz is deep, vibrant red black in colour and showing a wonderful bouquet of dark forest fruits. The plate is elegant yet full flavoured whilst the lingering finish is a delightful blend of varietal fruit, spicy overtones and restrained oak characters. This Shiraz boasts vibrant red fruit on both the nose and palate is supported by restrained oak. Although drinking well now, this wine will continue to develop in flavour and complexity with medium term cellaring.

The Shiraz fruit was sourced from the Schrapel family vineyards and neighbouring vineyards in the Barossa foothills. Traditional viticulture practices were applied with the yield from old vines 6.25t/Ha. The vineyards were hand pruned to 70 buds per vine to limit yields.

Near perfect growing conditions saw many wine critics and producers tout the 2017 Barossa vintage as one of the best in decades. The 2017 Bethany Shiraz is no exception; deep, vibrant red black in colour and showing a wonderful bouquet of dark forest fruits. The plate is elegant yet full flavoured whilst the lingering finish is a delightful blend of varietal fruit, spicy overtones and restrained oak characters.

Picked from hand pruned vines grown along the Barossa foothills this wine displays all the classic characteristics one expects from a premium quality Barossa shiraz.

Fermented on skins in the traditional manner for six days at 15-25 degrees with juice being racked from the skins and returned for optimal colour and fine tannin extraction. Fermentation was initiated prior to racking into French and American oak barrels to allow fruit and palate structure to develop. Matured in French and American oak for two years.

Great drinking now, although it will benefit from a few years cellaring. Enjoy with grilled steak and fresh field mushrooms or an aged vintage cheddar.
