Sommelier's Notes

The Clos Saint-Denis Grand Cru lies between the village of Morey-Saint-Denis to the south and Gevrey-Chambertin to the north, where the slope is very steep (13%).

The plot varies in altitude from 284 to 309 meters. The lieu-dit faces east-southeast.

The soil changes from east to west. The reddish-brown soil in the eastern part is 40 to 50 cm thick, with some angular-to-rounded limestone fragments.

Upslope, in the western part of this Grand Cru plot, the soil is richer in fine angular limestone gravel.

Two different substrata underlie the Clos Saint-Denis. To the east, the substratum is a fine light-colored limestone, occasionally containing flint-like chert nodules (chailles).

This Premeaux limestone, crops out in beds tens of centimeters thick. To the west, where the slope is steeper, a thin layer of Comblanchien limestone scree in the form of fine angular gravel partly covers the slope.

Domaine Dujac Clos Saint-Denis Grand Cru 2021 is a benchmark expression of Morey-Saint-Denis, combining Dujac’s signature whole-cluster vinification with the aromatic elegance of this iconic Grand Cru vineyard.

2021 Vintage Profile & Terroir

The 2021 Burgundy vintage was cool, challenging, and late-harvested, yielding wines defined by high acidity, lower alcohol, exceptional transparency, and classic floral aromatics.

Dujac’s Clos Saint-Denis parcel (sourced across Les Chaffots, Calouère, and the core Clos Saint-Denis lieu-dit) produced a remarkably refined, ethereal wine despite the low yields of the vintage.

Specifications
Bright mid-purple to glowing ruby-purple hue
Highly aromatic and lifted. Wafts of sweet red berries, summer fruit compote, peony, rose petals, sweet spice, and subtle coniferous/forest floor complexity from the whole-bunch inclusion.
Medium-to-full-bodied with a silken, satiny entry. It builds with incredible clarity, vibrant acidity, and ultra-fine, chalky limestone tannins. Less dense than Dujac's Clos de la Roche, but noticeably more fragrant, harmonious, and detailed. Long, mineral-driven, and perfumed with persistent red fruit and marine/saline undertones.
14C - 16 C
Duck breast with berry reduction, roasted squab, pan-seared veal medallion, or delicate game birds with wild chanterelles.
