Medium to deep ruby-red color is almost opaque. The aromas are classic for Mouton-Rothschild, combining rich, pure cassis fruit with wonderful clean cedary oak. The palate is laden with fresh cassis/blackcurrant fruit. The fine tannic structure combines suppleness & grip harmoniously, the rich fruit being lifted well by fresh acidity. The wine is medium to full bodied, but not heavy. Alcohol is balanced & the finish is long complex & very harmonious.
The nose displays subtle complexity on fruity notes of black cherry, candied quince and liquorice with touches of cold smoke, revealing very well-integrated oak.
The attack is rich and full, with precise, refined tannins that elegantly enfold mocha flavours and toasted notes, leading into a close-knit and flavourful finish with attractive, very fresh length. A distinctive and stylish wine.
