Sommelier's Notes

This small, 7ha, property is owned by Yseult de Gaye Nony, whose family are well known in Saint Emilion.

Like many Right Bank estates, the property was sold and resold.

In 1965, the estate was purchased by Pierre Manuel, who renamed the estate Chateau Grand Corbin Manuel.

In 2005, the property once again changed hands when it was sold to the current owner, Stephane de Gaye.

The de Gaye family continues to manage Chateau Grand Corbin Manuel today. The de Gaye family owns and manages two other Bordeaux vineyards, La Creation in Pomerol and Saint-Barbe, Bordeaux Superieur.

The vineyard is planted to Merlot 80% Cabernet Franc 15% & Cabernet Sauvignon 5%, with an average vine age of 35 years, and growing on the classic Saint Emilion clay.

Harvest is by hand, wine making is traditional and around 50% new wood is used each year.

The 17 hectares of the Château Grand Corbin Manuel are located on the descending slopes of the limestone plateau of Saint-Émilion up to the river Barbanne.

The breeze cools the bunches of grapes and reduces the risk of fungal diseases favoured by humidity. This location also optimises the drainage of rainwater, which is high in the region.

The proximity with the river accelerates the fall in temperature at night-time and the temperature differences between night and day encourage the ripening of grapes and aroma production.

When the Château was taken over in 2005, the team made sure that the vineyard continued to flourish.

The more precise characterization of the terroirs today allows us to manage the plots based on the vines and the wine cellar, in order to obtain the most faithful expression of each entity.

This vintage of Château Grand Corbin Manuel presents a beautiful dark dress with purple reflections.

The nose is lively and gives off warm aromas of fruits, spices, toast.

We find the fruit and the spices sweet on a generous, powerful mouth, with beautiful expressive tannins in the finish.
