WINE TYPE: Red

Sommelier's Notes

Grand Barossa Shiraz epitomises the premium international reputation for Shiraz which has made the Barossa Valley famous.

Lifted aromas of blackberry, plum and black pepper are accompanied by spicy, dark berry fruits on the palate.

WINEMAKING

All of the grapes are fermented in small batches to retain their sub-regional characters. After destemming, the wine ferments for 7 days on skins in small open fermenters and is hand plunged twice daily. This encourages maximum extraction yet retaining the dense, spicy fruit flavours which Shiraz is renowned for.

The wine is gently pressed before spending up to 12 months in a combination of new and seasoned French and American oak barrels in our cellars.

Review by: Ken Gargett, Wine PilotPurple/black in colour and a dazzling array of flavours – blueberries, chocolate, black fruits, coffee beans, mocha and more. Richly flavoured and while it is just bursting forth, all stays in balance. Seamless along the palate, through to satiny, silky tannins. A lovely generous style that is delicious now but should sail forth through the next decade. Excellent value.  Drink: 2022 - 2030

Review by: Angus Hughson, Wine PilotDeeply coloured, it is a plump and open knit style – you might even call it cuddly – with layers of earthy, blackberry and chocolate with a healthy dose of vanillin oak in the background. It follows with a strongly regional palate showing plenty of earth and black pepper spice with soft and fleshy tannins before finishing with decent length. It’s a good everyday Barossan to enjoy over the next five years. Drink: 2022 - 2029

Review by: Stuart Knox, Huon Hooke's The Real ReviewDeep and intense ruby-red colour in the glass. Mulberry, mocha and rosemary on the nose. Full-bodied on the palate, dark berries, coffee and anise notes fill the palate, a fine but focused tannin line drives it well, whilst a hint of dark graphite minerality lingers at the finish, which makes for a reason to revisit. A touch of warmth is noted but works in context. Drinking well 2022-2030

Review by: Sam Kim, Wine OrbitAttractively fruited and instantly appealing with dark plum, spiced cherry, almond and warm spice aromas, it's juicy and rounded in the mouth offering bright fruit flavours together with silky texture and fine tannins. Upfront and delightfully drinkable. At its best: now to 2027

Fresh blackberry, mulberry, raspberry pastille fruits, some leafy/ al dente textures and underlying savoury notes. Finishes claret firm, long and minerally.
