From their ancestor Françoise-Joséphine, who took part in the advent of the successive sorting of the grapes, to Bertrand , who was at the birth of the AOC, and Alexandre, who presided over the destiny of Yquem for a long time, the Lur Saluces are inseparable from the great wines of Sauternes.
In the 1920s, Bertrand de Lur Saluces, uncle of Alexandre, current owner of Château de Fargues, decided to abandon the production of red vines to devote himself exclusively to the production of a great Sauternes wine.
He undertook the slow and costly work of replanting the entire plot of land in Fargues with the grape varieties of the appellation.
Today, the same desire for quality and rigour and the same ethics are still being perpetuated.
The wine of Fargues embodies the entrepreneurial spirit and sense of risk and creativity of Lur Saluces.
"Tasted blind at Farr’s Sauternes 2002 horizontal.
Deep straw with green tints.
The nose displays good intensity: taut and minerally, well defined, developing with aeration aromas of crème-brulee, honey and a touch of biscuit.
The palate is very attractive: well balanced, lithe and feminine, very good poise, attacking but not aggressive.
The acidity slices through the honeyed fruit with precision and style.
A touch of viscosity towards the finish, but not as unctuous as other ’02 Sauternes.
This is a finely tuned Sauternes that excels in this vintage. Excellent. Drink now-2025+ Tasted October 2009."

"Evocative of Yquem in its breadth, the 2002 Chateau de Fargues has a surprisingly evolved medium-dark golden colour.
It is rich, powerful, and full-bodied, with fabulous botrytis, creme brulee, and toast aromas, as well as creamy orange, pineapple, and quince flavours.
Because of its full-bodied character, it is difficult to gauge its ageing potential, but I suspect it will be at its best between 2007 and 2020. (1/05)."
