Henry Pellé La Croix au Garde Sancerre Blanc 2020

Domaine Pellé is a winery deeply rooted in the Morogues village, located at the eastern end of the Loire Valley. They have cellars close to the village center, situated below the "Les Cris" red grape vineyard. The winery also owns vineyard plots in the neighbouring Menetou-salon and Sancerre appellations.

Despite the fast-paced changes in the world, the winemakers have remained devoted to their craft and the traditional winemaking practices. However, they have also embraced modern ways by wearing sneakers instead of clogs during their late-night checks on the wines.

A blend of 7 parcels from the highest slopes of the appellation. This location (cool yet sunny climate) and this soil (Kimmeridgian marl) give this wine a subtle, pure nose with aromas of white flowers and citrus fruits. The taste is racy and cristalline, clear with a citrus fruit taste initially followed by a saline and mineral finish. Nothing overly exuberant: just clarity and precision.

Since 1982, the estate has been cultivating 4 hectares of Sancerre in the village of Montigny. The ‘Caillotes’ type of pebbly clay and limestone soil produces beautifully fine wines with great regularity. An aromatic wine that mixes citrus and floral notes underpinned by a lovely minerality.

The wines are directly pressed from grapes on arrival at the winery before settling and fermentation in stainless steel vats. They are then aged on the lees in stainless steel vats (predominantly), wooden vats and casks.
