Rauzan-Ségla is a well-known Bordeaux wine estate located in the Margaux appellation of France.
Château Rauzan-Ségla has a long and storied history dating back to the 17th century. It was classified as a Second Growth (Deuxième Cru) in the Bordeaux Wine Official Classification of 1855, a testament to its historical significance and quality.
The estate spans approximately 82 hectares (about 203 acres) of vineyards planted with classic Bordeaux grape varieties, including Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and Petit Verdot. The vineyards benefit from gravelly soils and a maritime climate, ideal for producing high-quality red wines.
Rauzan-Ségla is renowned for its elegant and refined red wines, known for their complexity, balance, and aging potential. The wines often exhibit aromas of ripe fruits, floral notes, spices, and subtle oak nuances. The estate also produces a second wine called "Ségla" (previously known as "Château Ségla"), which offers a more accessible and approachable style.
Château Rauzan-Ségla is currently owned by the Chanel Group, a luxury goods company. The estate has benefited from significant investments in vineyard management, winemaking facilities, and sustainability practices under the leadership of estate manager Nicolas Audebert and consulting winemaker Éric Boissenot.
Even before the glass is swirled, the nose releases notes of black fruit, subtly uplifted by spice.
This tonality is confirmed when cherry and blackberry notes, accentuated by pink pepper, come through.
A world then opens up. Scents of incense, roasted coffee, a touch of nutmeg and liquorice sticks from our childhood.
The light fragrance of violets, the fresh scent of mint, and then, a taste of chocolate on the lips.
The range is complex, built over a dense, tight and very precise body.
There is no overripeness and no heaviness, but a tautness throughout the wine’s evolution.
The flesh is firm and taut, and the tannins are also very precise. The Cabernet Sauvignon imprints all its density in a beautiful balance.
