Domaine La Fagotière is an old property in the south of the Rhone Valley and is owned by the Chastan Family since 1889 and carries on a deep respect for the tradition of winemaking.
Located on the North side of Châteauneuf, the Domaine La Fagotière is owned by the Chastan Family since 1889 and carries on a deep respect for the tradition of winemaking. Today, sister-and-brother owners Pascal Chastan and Valérie Leoty represent the 5th-generation.
The 32-hectare estate grows 17 hectares of AOP Châteauneuf-du-Pape.
The 17 hectares of vines dedicated to the Châteauneuf-du-Pape appellation are around 50 years old while 15 hectares are of the Côte du Rhône appellation using sustainable vine-growing methods
The very old soil is made of sandstones (from 1 to 1.5 meters deep) resting on a thick layer of clay full of “rolled pebbles” and covered by the mantle of alpine diluvium, commonly known as ''galets roulés
They store the heat from the sun during the day and restore it at night, allowing the grapes to reach optimal maturity.
Harvest is done manually and mechanically while maturation are in tuns (43 to 80 hl) for a period of 8 to 12 months, depending on the vintage. Bottling with or without filtration, within 2 years
Vinification includes severe sorting of the grapes, light crushing, traditional fermentation and vatting for 15 to 20 days (depending on the health of the harvest) in concrete and stainless steel vats under controlled temperatures.followed by pressing in pneumatic press, systematic malolactic fermentation.
