Sommelier's Notes

Chateau Grand Corbin is a Grand Cru Classe wine producer located on the northwestern part of the Saint-Emilion plateau.

It is located in the Corbin sector of the Saint Emilion appellation, surrounded by many other vineyards which used to form the old Corbin seigneurie, including Château Grand Corbin Manuel to the north and Château Grand Corbin Despagne and Château Corbin to the west. Southwest and south are Château Ripeau, Château La Commanderie and Château Chauvin.

The land here is characterised by soils of wind-blown sand with little of the gravel, clay or limestone that marks the great terroirs of St Emilion.

It is only a few hundred metres from the west where Château Cheval Blanc and Château Figeac are situated with their priced prestigious gravel soils.

In December 2010, the estate was purchased by the Groupe SMABTP and in 2012, the group's adjacent estate, Chateau Haut Corbin, was awarded classed-growth status and the two Corbin estates were combined under one label.

The 15.5 hectares of Château Grand Corbin were combined by 9 hectares from Château Haut-Corbin plus another 4 hectares acquired from Chateau Le Jurat bringing the total vineyard area up to 28.5 hectares.

The estate which was established in 1852 and produces a grand vin from Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and Cabernet Sauvignon, and a second wine labelled "Les Charmes de Grand Corbin" from the same grape varieties.

Powerful fruits and tannins show densely in this concentrated wine.

It is all about structured black fruits that are still young and vibrant with freshness among the ripe flavors.

The wine needs to smooth out, so wait until 2024.
