Second Wine of the prestigious Premier Grand Cru Classé of Saint-Emilion - Château La Gaffelière – the Clos La Gaffelière 2018 offers a beautiful expression of the terroir of Saint-Émilion in a great Bordeaux vintage.
With a superb location on the greatest clay-limestone soils of Saint-Émilion, Château La Gaffelière expands over an exceptional vineyard of 38 hectares at the foot of a slope.
At Château La Gaffelière, the 2018 vintage will be remembered for the heavy rains of winter and spring. The mildew pressure was strong until the beginning of July, the moment when a beautiful, dry and sunny summer finally arrived. The harvest began on September 20th and lasted until October 10th.
Blending Merlot (85%) and Cabernet Franc (15%), the Clos La Gaffelière 2018 has rewarded all the efforts made by the Château's technical teams and produced the best possible in a challenging vintage. The Clos La Gaffelière 2018 is aged in oak barrels of 1 to 2 previous wines for 12 months. Made with the same care as the Grand Vin of the property, Clos La Gaffelière is a wine that is already accessible in its youth, with an ageing potential of about 10 years.
