Sommelier's Notes

Named after a former windmill and a knight named Chevalier Larose, this Saint Julien is a Cabernet Sauvignon (65%), Merlot (35%) blend. 


With over 10 acres located in the classified growth area of Saint-Julien, Chateau Moulin de la Rose is nicknamed the “Lilliputian of Saint-Julien”. 


The estate has some of the best gravelly soil in the area, producing a generous, tannic wine that maintains all the smoothness and finesse of the great Saint-Julien wines.


This 5-hectare property rubs shoulders with several top Saint-Julien Classed Growths, including Léoville Barton and Ducru-Beaucaillou. It is part of the Guy Delon family estate, being planted 65% with Cabernet Sauvignon and 35% with Merlot. it is run by Guy’s children, Jean-François and Guylène, this 2016 wine is totally seductive. 


While the location of the vines are enough to justify buying this wine, it is extremely important to know that the consulting winemaker here is Eric Boissenot.


He is one of the biggest names in Bordeaux and consults for many of the most famous wineries, including three out of the five First Growths, Chateau Latour, Lafite-Rothschild, and Mouton Rothschild. Many of these wines go for at least twice what you are paying for Château Moulin de la Rose.


Full and incredibly silky in the mouth, earthy spiciness is just starting to emerge, interweaving with the wine’s naturally fragrant, tightly concentrated, ripe blackcurrant fruitiness. The finish is elegant, fresh and long (for drinking now-2030+).
