Sommelier's Notes

Located near the Church of Lalande-de-Pomerol, built in the 12th century by the Hospitallers of St John of Jerusalem, Knights of Malta, Château PERRON, dating from 1642 is one of the oldest properties in the town .

At the heart of the Lalande-de-Pomerol appellation, Chateau PERRON covers 36 hectares of vines in AOC Lalande-de-Pomerol. Chateau PERRON has been the property of the Massonie family for three generations. Since 1958, the management of Chateau Perron has been family-run, first with Auguste Massonie and his son Michel-Pierre MASSONIE. Since 2000, his three children, Beatrice, Bertrand and Thibaut represent Chateau Perron.

The term “lande” comes from Celtic “landa”: uncultivated, poor land where broom and heather grow. This difficult land is favorable for the vines which will produce few grapes but of high quality.

The estate covering 36.17 hectares of vines of which 63% are old vines with an average age of 25 years old planted in Sandy-gravelly with iron oxide subsoil

The estate is also committed to environmental initiatives such as the ISO 14001 standard within the environmental management system, HVE3 standard and also organic conversion started in 2019.

Château PERRON is the perfect representative of a wine from the LALANDE-DE-POMEROL appellation, it steadfastly respects the grape variety of our property. A predominantly black Merlot, it benefits from a beautiful roundness, smooth, with aromas of black fruits such as black cherry, blackberry and blackcurrant.

The principle of drinkability and freshness in this wine gives it a character very suitable for any tasting moment.

The wines from this property are always sleek and supple and the 2016 is no different. But what the 2016 vintage has is just more of everything, deeper fruit profile, richer tannic structure, riper balancing acidity. A hint of toasted oak on the nose, with balanced acidity and freshness. The core is all cassis and rich plum, a touch of florality and then a deep draft of dark chocolate.

Culinary Recommendation: To serve 16 C - 18 C. Good match with meats, legumes, vegetables, rice, semi hard cheeses and desserts.
