Sommelier's Notes

It is in 1930 that the Glotin family purchased the domaine, and Henriette Glotin ran it for 40 years. She was one of the first woman winemakers and she devoted herself passionately to the domaine.

Then Paul extended the estate to restore its original surface, broken up through the centuries.

Today, Yves runs Goudichaud in the same spirit of respect for the traditions and of development.

The estate covers 120 hectares, composed of vineyards (60 Ha), forests and grasslands. It has the particularity to represent a continuous precinct with natural boundaries (river and forest).

Hence the charm of this space, protected by nature and evolving with respect for it.

The vineyard can be divided in 3 parts: a central plateau which soil is composed of clay and limestone, the gravels being situated 1 metre deep; then on each side of this plateau, the gravelly slopes enjoy an optimal exposure. These gravelly soils, proper to the Graves de Vayres, are clayey, deep and generous.

In order to get the best out of this terroir, our vineyard is mostly composed of Cabernet Sauvignon (50 per cent) for the red and rosé wines. These Cabernets, just as the Cabernets Francs (10 per cent), can reach an optimal phenolic ripeness on our slopes.

The Merlot (40 per cent) for its part, is situated on the plateau, a less constraining and more adapted soil.

The majority of Merlot allows an easy, young and regular consumption, associating charm and roundness. Château Haut Bessac develops a complex bouquet putting together black fruit aromas and delicate spicy emanations. The mouth is full of fruits and is very expressive. A wine without complexes, easy to open at every occasion.

Serve with poultry and red meat but also with mimolette cheese.
