Mastrojanni has been writing history with its wines since 1975, collecting awards from all over the world.
And in those years, only a few entered the wine-making adventure in Montalcino.
The Mastrojanni winery was established in 1975 in the Poderi Loreto and San Pio: ancient lookouts on an important communication route, from the top of the hills they have seen the flow of history from the Etruscans to the Romans; in the Middle Ages Podere San Pio increased its importance, becoming a fortified settlement to protect the important communication routes of the time, the Via Francigena and the famous "Via dei Papi".
These lands have been poorly populated and poorly cultivated throughout the history of humanity: the land was therefore virgin, clean, without any form of pollution which man was then able to deface.
It was here in 1975 that lawyer, Gabriele Mastrojanni bought the San Pio and Loreto estates and decided to plant his first vineyards, of which part are still producing our wines today.
Relais Mastrojanni stands at the south-eastern end of the Montalcino area: the enchanting majesty of the Amiata valley offers visitors a unique panorama.
Here, nature and the work of man merge in the harmony of vineyards alternating with holm-oak and oak woods, offering a unique view.
Pioneered by Biondi-Santi, other producers before him had also experimented with Sangiovese Grosso and witnessed how the terroir responded clearly: Sangiovese Grosso is the best grape variety for the soil of Montalcino.
Wanting to make a great Brunello, Mastrojanni planted almost exclusively Sangiovese vines and, thanks to a unique terroir and passionate work, the winery grew in production and exports, perhaps even beyond the lawyer's initial dream.
Today, thanks to an exceptional terroir and men who have believed in it for decades, Mastrojanni has become one of the most respected Montalcino producers as far as wine buffs are concerned.
The old vines of the vineyard give us the maximum expression of the native Sangiovese, offering us a wine of great personality and tradition where a superb and varied aromatic complexity is inserted on a solid tannic texture, dense and tight, which together with fragrant acidity is guarantee of a superb aging potential.
