Hainanese Curry Chicken is a uniquely Singaporean dish. This dish is normally eaten with rice, and side servings of Pork Chop, Braised Cabbage and Braised Pork Belly. This combination makes up a classic plate of Hainanese Curry Rice.
Singapore's Hainanese Curry Rice stems from the country's multi-racial and multi-ethnic fusion. During British colonial rule, many Hainanese were employed by the British and the Peranakans (Straits-born Chinese) as chefs who were known for their culinary skills. The Hainanese adapted the best cooking of both cultures to come up with their own.
Each Singapore Hainanese Curry Rice stalls all have their own protected curry recipe. Often, the curry sauce recipe has been handed down over generations and the curry sauce is special to each one of them.
