WINE TYPE: Red
WINE CLASSIFICATION: Bordeaux 2nd Wine
As in Haut-Médoc where the soils are of similar composition, it is Cabernet Sauvignon which dominates the grape variety. It is often blended with Merlot as well as other grape varieties in more limited quantities: Petit Verdot, Malbec and Carmenère for example. The style of Pessac-Léognan wines is lighter and more intensely perfumed than that of neighboring Médoc. The aromatic palette favors small black and red fruits (blackcurrant, morello cherry, plum, blackberry), accompanied by characteristic herbaceous notes.
