Larose-Trintaudon is a large property in the Haut-Médoc appellation on the Left Bank of the Gironde estuary, where Cabernet Sauvignon thrives in the predominantly gravel soils. Larose-Trintaudon has about 440 acres of vineyards which are next to the small and more prestigious appellations of Pauillac and Saint-Julien, whose wines are far more expensive. Widely available below $50, Larose-Trintaudon’s 2015 Haut-Médoc is a relative bargain, and a great-value Bordeaux.
If Château Larose-Trintaudon has succeeded in creating a name for itself as an excellent wine, vintage after vintage, it is entirely due to its taste quality. By expressing its strength of character without austerity but with suppleness and finesse, it pleases novices and wine experts alike, and is universally appreciated. At each blending, the cellar masters practice their alchemy, testing until they succeed in unveiling the wine’s true personality, a combination of intensity and opulence that expresses superb red fruit aromas whilst preserving aromatic freshness and purity. That is why, depending on the harvest and the balance of the grapes, the blend is slightly different each year. For, as everyone knows, subtle movement is the secret to perfect balance!
Made from the property’s younger vines and with vinification at low temperature to favour fruit and the smoothness of the tannins. Ruby colour with a hint of tile red. The fresh red fruit aromas combine with subtle notes of coconut and tobacco from careful oak ageing. On the palate, roundness, fruit and a moderate tannic structure give an overall sensation of softness and creaminess. The finish is simple, soft and delicate.
